Why your new business needs a strong logo (and how it can boost your profits)
Look, we get it - branding is one of those start-up costs that can make any new business owner feel a little light-headed. It’s essential, but sometimes it can feel like one more thing you have to budget for. Yet there’s one thing that can make or break how people see (and remember!) your business: your logo.
Yep, your logo is a big deal. Think of it as the "face" of your business. It’s the first thing people see, the thing they’re most likely to remember. You want that face to stand for your business’s best qualities, right? But how exactly does a logo impact profit? Isn’t it just a cute little piece of art?
Wrong! Let’s get into it.

A Strong Logo Sets Off a Chain Reaction
A well-designed logo is like a little trust-building machine. Here’s how it works: a great logo builds familiarity, which builds recognition, which builds trust, and, you guessed it - trust leads to investment! And investment means profit. So, what happens if you skip this step?
“Why Spend Big When I Can Get It Done for $5?”
Yes, technically, you could get a logo designed for $5 on Fiverr. Five bucks! That’s cheaper than a burger and fries. Tempting? Maybe. But let’s be real: is the most important part of your brand worth less than lunch?

Fiverr is actually an awesome platform, especially for up-and-coming designers who are building their portfolios. I started on similar sites myself, doing T-shirt designs and random projects. But here’s the catch: with these quick, low-budget designs, there’s often no real insight into your business or your values. That $5 designer probably doesn’t know your brand’s unique story, so your logo may look cute but won’t be memorable or authentic to you.
“Alright, Fine. I’ll Just Design It Myself.”
If you’re the DIY type, that’s awesome! Many clients sketch out ideas, which can be super helpful for visualizing what you want. But designing a logo that really reflects your business? That takes more than a few Photoshop tricks. A designer brings more than just visuals—they bring strategy. For example:
- Shapes Matter: Circles feel warm and friendly, while squares and sharp edges give off strength and reliability. You want the shape of your logo to speak for your business vibe.
- Font Choices Count: The right font can totally change a logo’s feel. Classic serif fonts give off a professional, traditional vibe, while sans-serifs feel modern and clean. Pairing two styles can really make your brand personality shine.
- Color Psychology is Real: Colors set a mood. Think about all the red and yellow in fast-food logos (energy and excitement) or the blue and green in health care logos (trust and calm). And it’s not just about looking good on screen; it has to work in print too. We’re talking CMYK, RGB, and Pantone colors, all the behind-the-scenes stuff that ensures your logo looks amazing everywhere.
Every detail you see in a logo - the shape, the font, the color—is part of a plan to make a memorable first impression. A graphic designer combines all these elements to create a logo that feels like you.

"Should I Rebrand?"
Some of the most iconic companies have used their logos to build legendary brands. Take Apple, for example. Their original logo was a complicated image of Isaac Newton under an apple tree. A year later, they simplified it to the half-eaten apple we know today. It was clean, modern, and easy to understand. And, of course, it didn’t hurt that their products lived up to the promise of that logo.
Not every rebrand is a win, though. Remember when GAP changed their logo in 2010? The new look was met with so much backlash that they scrapped it within a week and went back to the classic logo. The new design didn’t connect with their audience—and the reaction was a very expensive lesson.
So, should you rebrand? Only if you’ve taken the time to get crystal-clear on your brand’s purpose and identity. If you’re feeling uncertain, I’ve got another article that dives into why defining your brand is so important. A rebrand should never be just about “looking fresh”—it’s about telling your story in a way that clicks with your audience.

“But How Does a Logo Actually Help My Bottom Line?”
Here’s the juicy part: a strong logo can absolutely boost profits. Think about it: when a customer sees a logo they like, it creates a positive impression right off the bat. If the design is sloppy or doesn’t resonate, it can actually turn people off. An unappealing logo can undermine trust before a customer even checks out what you offer.
A well-crafted logo, on the other hand, establishes trust and authority. It attracts customers, builds brand loyalty, and sets you apart from competitors. In other words, a strong logo can help drive sales, boost profit, and lock in your place in the market.
So, What’s the Verdict?
Take a look at your logo right now. Does it show the best of your business? Does it make you stand out from your competitors? Does it create trust? If you’re unsure, maybe it’s time to consider a redesign. Skip the budget options and go with a graphic designer who’ll balance color, font, and shape to create something that truly captures the heart of your brand.
